Our Children Are Our Future! Why not wait?

Why not wait till a child complains? Because the problems are widespread and dangerous. 1 in every 5 children under the age of 8 has an uncorrected vision disorder. If left untreated, some disorders cause permanent vision impairment or total vision loss. A child with a vision problem may have trouble learning, not just in school, but in the everyday experiences of exploring the world. 85% of what children learn, they learn through vision. We target children from families who have no health insurance or are underinsured. Without our early detection screening, their vision disorders would remain untreated.

How can we do it?

How can we screen a child who is too young to read, or who does not know English? Don’t we have to wait? No! We do not depend on traditional eye charts. We use state-of-the-art equipment that screens instantly for visual acuity and various serious vision disordes. The SureSightTM Vision Screener does not intimidate even very a very young child and can give us crucial information about the optical condition of the child’s eyes, all in less than a minute!

We are state-certified.

The Rhode Island Department of Education has certified that Saving Sight Rhode Island’s Visions Screening meets school-mandated screening criteria. As a result, the demand for our services is ever-increasing.

We do more than just improve a child’s visual acuity and focus. We screen for the very common “lazy eye” disorder that can permanently rob a child of vision in one eye, and our screenings can also detect four other childhood eye disorders.
